Kindergarten

Dear NEW First Grade Parents,

Congratulations on completing Kindergarten! Your child will be entering a new phase in their life, the world of First Grade! The First Grade Teachers would like to make this transitio n as easy as possible with a few tips.

The first day of school bring your child to the classroom to meet their teacher. Plan to spend 5 minutes filling out a brief questionnaire about snack, lunch and plans for dismissal.

End-of-Day Student Pick-Up

  • Walk Up: You and your child can come up with a place to meet outside the gate, such as the flag pole or palm tree.
  • Drive Thru: Your child can also be picked up in the cage area. Please follow the Lake Rules for the Cage.
  • AM/PM: If your child is enrolled in AM/PM they will be walked over to the AM/PM area in a group.

Snack

Your child will need to bring a small healthy (no candy, cookies, chips, or sodas) snack that can be eaten in a few minutes. First Grade students will have 15 minutes to eat their snack, use the restroom and play on the playground.

Lunch

Lunch is 45 minutes long. For the first 20 minutes, students are required to sit at the tables and eat their lunch. Your child may purchase a lunch through the school cafeteria or you may pack them a lunch (no candy or soda). The last 20 minutes are for playing on the playground and using the restroom.

Backpack/Bag

Your child will need a small backpack or bag to carry items to and from school. Please do not purchase a rolling backpack. First Graders will not be carrying heavy items. Rolling backpacks take up space in our already crowded classroom and are a hazard when walking in line.

Dress Code

Please dress your child in comfortable clothes. School rules require closed-toed and closed-heel shoes. Tank top or dress straps must be at least 1 inch wide and please have girls wear shorts under their dresses or skirts. Put plenty of sunscreen on your child as they will be outside throughout the day.

Daily Morning Procedures

The second day, and every day from then on, students will go to the playground in the morning. Teachers will escort students to the primary playground from the front of the school when the playground is opened. The playground is closed until 20 minutes before school starts. The First Grade teachers will pick-up their students from the playground when the bell rings. Please say good-bye to your child at the gate. Parents and siblings are not allowed on the playground at anytime. For safety reasons students are not allowed on the play structure, bars, or climbing wall in the morning.

Supplies

If you wish to contribute or donate supplies for you child, here is a list of recommended items. These will be used for the whole class and should not be labeled with student names:

  • Glue Sticks
  • Ticonderoga Pencils
  • Tissue
  • Clorox Wipes
  • Paper Towels
  • Crayola Crayons (8 pack)

**Headphones: These will be used for all online learning programs. Headphones will be sent home at the end of the year. Please place in ziplock baggie with student's name on it.

Back-To-School Night - August 22nd

You are invited to come to your student's classroom and see what the children have been learning so far. Teachers will share important information about the school year. We will also have a list of general classroom supplies if you would like to make donations.

First Day of First Grade!

We look forward to meeting you on the first day of school,
Wednesday, August 15th.

Have a great summer!

Sincerely,

The First Grade Team
